Click the Merge and Center button on the toolbar. Again, this will only preserve the text in the upper-leftmost cell. If your data is a mix of both and you want to apply this solution, select the complete range, click on that dialog box launcher in the Alignment group in the Home tab and clear the Merge cells check box. To merge a group of cells and center the text, you can also use the Merge and Center button on the Excel tool bar.
